Discipleship

Life change can happen here…

+ We pray and care for one another…

The River Community Church is exploring the pilgrimage mantra of praying for…acting towards…living with. Over the next four months we will discover more about living by faith, strengthen this pilgrimage and share these life experiences.

Discipleship Opportunities?

Please contact our Community Pastor, Bruce Dykstra, with any questions or to sign up for any of these opportunities by emailing him.

1. Disciple Partnerships

Our basic discipleship opportunity is a one-on-one partnership. You meet with a discipler and “walk” through the gospel centered life curriculum together. You will be prayed for and prayed with throughout your time together. You will study the Bible and be challenged to live it out during the time between sessions. You will have an on going conversation about being a disciple.

2. Disciple Groups

If one-on-one is intimidating, gather one, two or three other people to walk with a discipler through the gospel centered life curriculum. This is ideal for teenagers, a family or a group of friends who want to go deeper and wider in their journey with Jesus.

3. Be A Discipler

Want to disciple someone? A three session training is offered for those who have completed a discipleship relationship. The training will evaluate and prepare a person to disciple another.

4. Scriptural Teaching for A New Disciple

STAND is a six session class about helping people declare their trust in Jesus towards baptism or profession of faith.

5. “I’M IN!”

Launch 101 is our membership class, which is a three session class that helps people connect with the community and mission of The River Community Church.

+ What do you study as you journey through the gospel centered life?

The gospel centered life is a nine session curriculum that walks through the foundations of following Jesus. Each session looks like the following:

  1. Begin by praying for each other.
  2. A discussion on a Bible passage relating to the theme of the session.
  3. An article is read and discussed keying in on how the subject challenges us in our journey with Jesus.
  4. An exercise is then explained in preparation for living what we have learned in the week that follows.

The material covers…

  • The Gospel Grid: the ways we minimize our sin
  • Pretending And Performing: our natural tendencies
  • Believing The Gospel: becoming a child of God
  • Law Versus The Gospel: how do you live?
  • Repentance: a godly practice
  • Heart Idolatry: the sin beneath the sin
  • Mission: blessed to be a blessing
  • Forgiveness: a community practice
  • Conflict: resolution
